Latin America's biggest hackathon will feature a 48-hour marathon.

Generating solutions to societal problems in 15 different sectors, all in just 48 hours. This is the challenge for competitors at Hacking.Rio, the largest hackathon in Latin America , taking place on October 10th and 11th. And there's still time to enter this competition. Registration is free and ends this Tuesday (6) . Competitors will have access to mentoring and educational content to develop a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The event will bring together participants from all over the world, including people who are not very familiar with the technological field.

In its third edition, Hacking.Rio will be divided into two teams: Standards, for beginners, and Masters, for developers, programmers, coders, designers, data scientists and specialists who understand the subject and are considered the best in the market. This Friday (9), participants will get to know the virtual space where they will be connected during the weekend.

In total, there will be 15 hackathons from different sectors happening simultaneously. One of the highlights of the event is Women in Tech, exclusively for women. In addition to encouraging female participation in the competition, this category will serve as a talent pool for large companies.

All participants will be searching for simple solutions to real challenges faced by society, such as in the areas of education, employability, energy, logistics, sustainability, tourism, retail, among others. Each cluster (connected computers working together) will have facilitators, guidance from technical mentors, experts in the respective segment, and an evaluation panel.

Among them are experts such as Vinicius Mesquita, President of Sescoop RJ; data scientist and MIT Technology Review columnist Ana Carolina da Hora; Thiago Cardoso, director of Web Summit On The Road; Edmour Saiani, founding partner of Ponto de Referência; Duda Magalhães, partner and president of Dream Factory and vice president of Dreamers Group; Fernanda Estrella, marketing director of Rock in Rio; Alfredo Soares, founder of Xtech Commerce and author of the books Bora Vender and Bora Varejo.

The challenges are related to fulfilling the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as access to basic sanitation, poverty reduction, ending hunger, energy for all, gender equality, and education and health. “The SDGs are part of a global agenda with 17 goals and 169 targets, aiming to build a more just, prosperous, sustainable, and equitable world by 2030. This is the world we need to build together,” says Lindália Junqueira, CEO and founder of Hacking.Rio.

The winning team from each of the hackathons will take home a prize of R$ 5,000. The participants themselves will choose the best mentor and best activator. At the end, the winning teams will also compete for the Master Prize, in which each member of the best team at Hacking.Rio 2020 will receive a trip to the Web Summit Lisbon, one of the world's leading technology events, scheduled for December this year in Portugal. The announcement will take place on Tuesday (13).
