This Saturday marked the closing of the International Mathematical Olympiad, #IMO2017 . The competition was featured in a report broadcast on Jornal Nacional (TV Globo).
According to IMPA's Extraordinary Researcher, Artur Avila, this is an important event for several reasons. "The IMO brings enthusiasm for mathematics and also a taste for effort and focus."
Brazilian João César Vargas, silver medalist in this edition, concluded his journey from OBMEP to IMO with a golden opportunity. He was selected for one of the best American universities. "Now I will study with world-renowned experts in my field."
