INCTMat will fund scientific events with up to R$ 10,000.

The National Institute of Science and Technology of Mathematics (INCTMat) launched, this Tuesday (4), a public call for support for scientific events held in Brazil. The initiative will grant financial aid of up to R$ 10,000 to institutions and universities that have events scheduled between May and December 2022. To register, it is necessary to fill out an online form and send a detailed project proposal, in free format, to the email address inctmat@impa.br until January 31.
INCTMat's vice-coordinator, Lorenzo Díaz, states that the call for proposals is "a small, optimistic bet" on the return of this type of meeting. "Most of the events approved in the last call for proposals had to be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are completing almost two years without in-person events in Brazil, which has obviously generated considerable frustration in the mathematics community. Fortunately, the progress of vaccination in the country has allowed for some optimism and consideration of opening a new call for proposals for events starting in May," he shares.
Díaz emphasizes that the call for proposals is attentive to the strict adherence to health protocols. “Adaptations will be necessary for the new times, and we will all have to learn to deal with the changes. In the call for proposals, we draw attention to the need for events supported by INCTMat to strictly follow health protocols. We hope we are not wrong and that the approved events finally take place and are a success.”
The selection process will prioritize proposals for in-person activities that adequately reflect the gender and regional diversity of the mathematical community in their respective scientific committees, organizing commissions, and speaker rosters. This edition of the call will exceptionally include events in a hybrid format.
The criteria evaluated by the call for proposals are: scientific and academic quality, scientific relevance of the event in relation to the local context, impact of the project on local and regional development, reliability of the estimated budget, financial commitment of local institutions, and commitment to diversity in the mathematics community.
The results will be released on March 25th.
