INCTMat and SBM host live event about scientific articles.

The preparation of scientific articles is the theme of the Wednesdays round table of the National Institute of Science and Technology of Mathematics (INCTMat) , which takes place next Wednesday (25), at 5:15 pm. The activity is developed by INCTMat, in partnership with the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM) and with the support of IMPA. The meeting will be broadcast via Zoom and will be available on the SBM YouTube channel . Questions about registration can be sent to inctmat@impa.br .

The roundtable discussion is part of the “Mathematics as a Profession” series, which aims to provide professional development activities dedicated to the mathematics community. This edition will feature prominent participants: researchers Bernardo Borges, from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), María Amelia Salazar, from the Federal Fluminense University (UFF), and Tiago Pereira, from the University of São Paulo (USP-São Carlos), will discuss aspects of scientific article production. The discussion will be moderated by Carolina Araujo, a researcher at IMPA.

“Writing scientific articles is one of the main tasks of a mathematician working in scientific research. It is important to do it well, so in this round table the guests will talk about their experiences in the task of preparing scientific articles, discussing the steps involved in preparing an article, tips and rules they follow for the structure of the text,” points out Araujo.

This joint activity between INCTMat and SBM offers an excellent opportunity to combine efforts, continuing INCTMat's series of activities on professional development. The series began on November 6, 2020, with the first meeting addressing the preparation of research projects. The video is available on the institute's YouTube channel . The second meeting, on December 9 of last year, was about the evaluation of research projects and is also available on the same channel . The third meeting, in turn, discussed the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the lives of Brazilian scientists.

INCTMat promotes the consolidation of Brazilian mathematics in both established centers and newer centers spreading throughout Brazil. The organization is coordinated by Jacob Palis (IMPA) and vice-coordinator Lorenzo Diaz (PUC-Rio), and maintains research groups in 21 development centers with the aim of expanding the frontiers of scientific research and encouraging the training of new mathematicians.
