In Education 360º, a workshop on the Open Book of Mathematics.

Intense debates, lectures given by internationally renowned professionals, workshops. This is the focus of the Educação 360º program, an event in Rio that will discuss the topic from diverse perspectives and reveal transformative initiatives in the field, next week (24th and 25th), at the Museum of Tomorrow and MAR. It is no coincidence that the Open Book of Mathematics , an IMPA project supported by the Itaú Social Foundation, is part of the event's activities.

If you teach Mathematics in Basic Education, are pursuing a degree in the field, or work in teacher training, you can register for the workshop “Spatial Geometry: exploring 2D representations of 3D objects using concrete and digital materials”.

All the material presented during the workshop is part of the Open Book of Mathematics, which goes against the grain of a single, finished, closed book. As the name suggests, it is an open work, created from diverse contexts and in a collaborative way, based on research in the areas of Teaching and Mathematics Education and on the experience of teachers who are daily in the classrooms of Basic Education.

The idea of the workshop is to show how these 2D representations of 3D objects provide mathematical models that help in understanding how we see, communicate, and interact with the world. During the workshop, the teacher actively participates in the construction of concepts through experiments with light and shadows and digital experiments with GeoGebra 3D.

Also on the Education 360º program, which will discuss the topic from a multidisciplinary perspective, are debates such as “Promises of Education (World Bank), with economist David Evans and sociologist Cesar Callegari,” and “Barefoot College: a school for 'bare feet,'” with social activist and educator Sanjit 'Bunker' Roy and Ricardo Henriques. Among the event's speakers are visual artist Beatriz Milhares, physician Robert Lent, and filmmaker Cao Hamburger. Check out the full program at goo.gl/6qqXJf
