IMS 2026 opens call for invited thematic sessions.

The call for proposals for invited sessions for the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Institute for Mathematical Statistics (IMS) is now open . The event will be held from July 6-9 next year in Salzburg, Austria. The conference will bring together researchers from around the world to discuss recent advances in probability, statistics, and related fields. The deadline for submitting proposals is November 15, 2025.

There are approximately 15 slots available in each area, which will be filled from the proposals submitted in this call for papers. Each session should include a title and a brief description, as well as information about the organizer, the session chair, and three invited speakers. Presentations will be 25 minutes long, followed by a short question and answer period.

Proposals will be evaluated based on the importance, originality, impact, and current relevance of the themes. The committee will also value proposals that present a diversity of perspectives and a balanced composition among participants. Acceptance decisions will be announced by December 1, 2025. Recognized as one of the leading international events in the field, the event will feature high-level lectures and thematic panels. Among the confirmed highlights are the Wald Lecture 2026, delivered by Tilmann Gneiting; the Medallion Lectures, with Ian McKeague, Bodhisattva Sen, and Jelle Goeman; the IMS Presidential Address, by Kavita Ramanan; and the Blackwell Lecture 2026, whose speaker will be announced soon.

In addition to scientific activities, participants will have the opportunity to attend a classical chamber music concert, offered in partnership with the State and City of Salzburg — a tribute to the musical tradition of the hometown of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Christian Doppler, also known as the setting for the film "The Sound of Music".
