IMPA's postgraduate program will be the topic of a live stream on Tuesday (15)

With a prestigious faculty, diverse research lines and high teaching standards, IMPA's postgraduate program attracts the interest of those seeking qualification in the field of mathematics. This Tuesday (15), at 11 am, the live stream "IMPA 70 years: get to know our postgraduate program" will bring together master's and doctoral students from the institute for a chat about their experiences with IMPA's general director, Marcelo Viana. The conversation will be broadcast on IMPA's YouTube channel .

Participating in the live stream are students Hallison Paz , a doctoral candidate at Visgraf (IMPA's Computer Graphics Laboratory); Ana Carolina Mançur, a doctoral candidate in symplectic geometry; and João Vitor Romano, a master's student in finance. IMPA researcher and postgraduate studies manager Henrique Bursztyn will make a special video appearance.

The Master's and Doctoral programs in mathematics at IMPA were inaugurated in 1962 through an agreement signed with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Shortly after, the institute became the first Brazilian institution to have its postgraduate program in the field accredited by CAPES. Since then, IMPA has trained more than 1,400 masters and doctoral students. Its faculty consists of 43 researchers of different nationalities.

Celebrations of IMPA's 70th anniversary

This broadcast is part of a series of activities that IMPA is launching to celebrate its 70th anniversary , which will be on October 15, 2022. Over the next few months, we will discuss, in different formats—reports, videos, live streams, events, posts, quizzes, and polls—the most significant aspects of the institute's work, weaving together its past, present, and future. Each month will have a main theme, defined by the institution's milestones.
