IMPA supports the creation of a computer lab in the northern zone of Rio.

Thanks to a donation of 49 pieces of equipment from IMPA, the social organization "Youth With A Mission" (YWAM) was able to set up a computer lab in April to offer free courses to vulnerable youth. “We are grateful for the donations. We managed to set up a complete lab for the youth of the communities in Tijuca,” said an emotional Jovino Santos, coordinator of the organization. The space is part of the “Casa Bem” project, which now has computers, monitors, projectors, printers, and other essential equipment to guarantee these young people access to the digital world. The project serves residents of the Salgueiro, Borel, Formiga, Cruz, Indiana, and other communities.

For IMPA, the donation goes beyond the equipment sent. “We believe that technology is a bridge to transform lives. We want to give a new purpose to what we no longer use and expand the positive impact in communities that need real opportunities for learning, training, and insertion into the job market,” said Márcia Pimenta, who is part of IMPA's Heritage sector, responsible for donations.

The NGO "Youth With a Mission" is not the first to benefit from the transfer of equipment. The Nova Ágora Institute of Citizenship (INAC), the Jurujuba Psychiatric Hospital, the State Council for the Rights of Black People (CEDINEPIR), the Capoeira Angola Marrom and Students Association, and the Francis Hime Municipal School have also already been included.

In recent years, IMPA has worked to expand its donation practices, which follow a rigorous internal process. First, the institute identifies institutions committed to social transformation and contacts their coordinators. Then, the institute conducts technical tests on the equipment and collects all the necessary documentation to ensure a safe and effective delivery. The goal is to contribute to social initiatives and the responsible disposal of disused equipment and goods.

And there's more to come: the Heritage sector is already in the final stages of preparing for a new donation of computer equipment, scheduled to take place in early May of this year.
