IMPA researchers take part in event in Teresina (PI)

The 6th Brazilian Congress of Young Researchers in Pure, Applied and Statistical Mathematics (VI CBJME) began on Monday (18) in Teresina (PI). The event, which ends on Thursday (21), will be attended by IMPA’s director-general, Marcelo Viana, and the institute’s researchers João Pedro Ramos and Marcelo Campos.

Viana will be at the round table “Mathematics, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence and Technological Innovation” on Monday afternoon. The congress brings together around 350 participants from all regions of the country and expects approximately 200 scientific presentations over four days, including lectures, thematic sessions and round tables. In all, the event has 11 plenary speakers.

In his first appearance at the event, Ramos will give the opening plenary lecture on Monday, focusing on recent applications of artificial intelligence in mathematics.

“I thought it was an excellent initiative. It’s very important that, in mathematics, we can talk to more young people. We younger researchers need to come together, we have common agendas. As scientists who are just starting out in their careers, who have an early career position, we’re certainly going to learn a lot. I’m very excited about it,” he said.

Campos is chairing the plenary session on Thursday (21) and will present recent advances in Ramsey theory. “The aim of the event is to bring together young mathematicians from all over Brazil to publicize our work and exchange experiences. I was delighted to be invited to give a talk”, he commented.

Created in 2014, the congress aims to strengthen scientific production and encourage new academic leadership in the areas of pure and applied mathematics and statistics. The meeting also promotes scientific exchange between young researchers and the discussion of scientific policies aimed at consolidating the careers of mathematicians and statisticians who have completed their doctorates in the last ten years.

The 6th CBJME is a joint initiative of the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), the State University of Piauí (UESPI), the Federal University of Delta do Parnaíba (UFDPar) and the Federal Institute of Piauí (IFPI). This year’s edition is hosted by UFPI and held at the Diferencial Eventos space in Teresina.
