IMPA receives the Rio Leaders Award 2021

IMPA was chosen to receive the 2021 Rio Leaders Award, granted by the business council of Lide Rio de Janeiro, a private group that brings together companies from Rio de Janeiro and the state of Rio de Janeiro. The annual award recognizes entities, institutes, and business managers who contribute significantly to the development of the State of Rio de Janeiro through innovation, business, economic and social growth, and income generation.
In this year's edition, Lide prioritized actions relevant to the recovery of Rio's economy as a criterion for choosing the winner.
“The Lide Rio de Janeiro Business Council recognizes the relevance of IMPA as one of the most respected and recognized mathematical institutions in the world, with a top-tier scientific body, which, based in Rio de Janeiro, places our state on par with internationally renowned centers. Furthermore, it stimulates the training of new professionals and the dissemination and improvement of mathematical culture in Brazil. IMPA plays a fundamental role in scientific and technological development, indispensable components for the economic, social, and human progress of our state,” the organization stated.
According to IMPA's Director-General, Marcelo Viana, the award aligns with the institute's current focus, which is increasingly focused on technical partnerships with industry.
“This award from the LIDE Business Center, which greatly honors us, aligns with the growing emphasis that IMPA has been placing on its interaction with the national productive sector, through technological partnerships and the transfer of mathematical expertise to our companies,” he stated.
Lide is a private organization founded in 2003 that brings together business leaders and corporations from Brazil and around the world to discuss economic and social development and the ethical principles of corporate governance in the public and private sectors.
The award ceremony will take place on December 15th at noon at the Fairmont Hotel in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. The Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, along with other authorities and business leaders, will attend the event.
