IMPA promotes event on commutative algebra and geometry.
A traditional meeting of the fields of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry will be held at IMPA next week, between February 6th and 10th. The 15th ALGA (Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry) brings together researchers from different countries for an in-person event, where topics such as number theory, codes, and foliations will be discussed. The event requires a fee, with registration available on the IMPA website.
This edition features 20 speakers, including prominent names such as Alicia Dickenstein, a researcher at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and vice-president of the International Mathematical Union (IMU) from 2015 to 2018, who will present “Linear algebra, combinatorics and defectivity” .

Another highlight is Paolo Cascini, from Imperial College London (United Kingdom), who was awarded the 2016 Moore Prize by the American Mathematical Society (AMS), along with three other researchers, for an article considered groundbreaking in the field. The prize is a mathematical distinction awarded every three years for a notable research article published in one of the AMS journals.
Renzo Cavalieri, from Colorado State University (USA), has been at IMPA since the beginning of January and is also a confirmed participant. The researcher is participating in the institute's Summer Postdoctoral program and will present the lecture "Pseudo-Stable Hodge Integrals" at the conference.
Jorge Vitório Pereira (IMPA) will participate in the meeting with the lecture “Closed meromorphic 1-forms” . “The event will feature several distinguished researchers and is an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues in the field and learn about their research,” said Pereira.
In this edition, the event also provided a space for 18 young researchers to present their work. The participants were selected by the organizing committee and are from UFRJ, UERJ, UFMG, Unicamp, UFPB, University of Burgundy (France), Rovira and Virgili University (Spain), and IMPA.
Participation costs R $ 50 for students and R $ 100 for researchers (PhDs and post-doctoral fellows). Register at this link.
