IMPA participates in the 20th National Science and Technology Week.
IMPA is participating, from Monday (16) to Sunday (22), in the 20th edition of the National Science and Technology Week (SNCT) , which, this year, has the theme “Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development” . The event is promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MTCI) and takes place at the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center, in Brasília.
With the slogan: "There's Science in Everything," the week aims to " mobilize the population around the importance of science as a tool for generating value, innovation, wealth, solutions to national challenges, social inclusion, and improving quality of life," highlights the MCTI (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation) website.

IMPA's booth at SNCT will tell a bit about the institution's history, its mission, and its contribution to science in Brazil. In addition to videos and information about the institute's projects, the space will feature a "mathematical chair," the Spun armchair. Molded in polyethylene, the chair allows for balanced rotations. Logic games and toys, aimed primarily at children and young people, will also be available to the public. The goal is to demonstrate that teaching mathematics can be playful and engaging.
This year, the National Science and Technology Week celebrates its 20th anniversary. The various activities promoted highlight the importance of science and technology in everyone's lives and for the development of the country. The program includes scientific outreach activities, such as stands from units linked to the MCTI (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation), science tents, lectures, courses, workshops, educational and scientific experiments, sky observation, debates, distribution of brochures and books, and video screenings.
From Monday to Sunday, the event takes place from 9 am to 5 pm (until 9:30 pm on Wednesdays). More information can be found on the SNCT website.
