'IMPA Open Doors' will be held on the 25th and 26th.

The 1st edition of “IMPA Open Doors”, a visitor program created to share the wonders of Mathematics and publicize the work done in an area fundamental to the country's development, now has new dates: April 2Thursdays and 2Fridays. Initially scheduled for the beginning of the month, it was postponed due to the heavy rains that occurred in Rio de Janeiro.

The program is aimed at elementary school students and teachers, as well as others interested in learning about IMPA, which produces internationally renowned work, is home to acclaimed researchers, including Fields Medalist Artur Avila, and plays a significant role in teacher training and the dissemination of mathematics. Furthermore, it hosts the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools (OBMEP), the largest scientific competition in the country.

IMPA's Director-General, Marcelo Viana, highlights the importance of the initiative: “'Open Doors' is yet another IMPA initiative to bring the institute and mathematics closer to society as a whole and promote the dissemination of scientific culture. It organizes and integrates, into the regular functioning of the institute, activities that we have offered sporadically in recent years, always with excellent reception.”

The activities will take place from 9 am to 1 pm at the institute's headquarters, a four-story building located a few minutes from the Botanical Garden and the Tijuca Forest, at Estrada Dona Castorina, 110.

The program includes a welcome chat with the Director-General of IMPA and the Deputy Director, Claudio Landim, recreational activities such as origami workshops and games, lectures with researchers Diego Nehab (computer graphics), Harold Rosenberg (differential geometry), Hermano Frid (analysis and partial differential equations) and Vinícius Gripp (symplectic geometry), and film club sessions.
