IMPA offers workplace safety activities.
From April 7th to 10th, IMPA held the “Internal Week for the Prevention of Workplace Accidents – SIPAT” for the institute's employees. The program included lectures on mental health and first aid, as well as shiatsu activities and blood pressure, glucose, and heart rate checks. The initiative was organized by the Internal Commission for the Prevention of Accidents (CIPA).
The event aimed to develop activities to promote safety and health at work in order to prevent accidents, occupational diseases and promote awareness among employees. On Monday (7), employees attended the lecture “Strategies for identifying emotional illness and how to help”, by Roberta Flach. The workshop addressed the care of emotional illnesses, such as depression.

Dion Villar, multimedia coordinator at IMPA, participated in the event and recognized the importance of the debate in the corporate environment. “The lecture was very interesting because it addresses sensitive topics and 21st-century emotional illnesses, such as depression. I think it was very useful for the community.”
On Wednesday (9), speaker Ricardo Tavares presided over the “Practical First Aid Workshop with Realistic Simulations”, which included the participation of IMPA employees for demonstrations. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques, maneuvers in airway obstruction situations, as well as safety, prevention and rescue protocols were taught.
“IMPA [Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics] focused on providing training that is important for employees to be able to provide some type of assistance in an emergency before the arrival of emergency medical services. As an instructor and professor, I always advise every company, and everyone concerned about the occupational health of their employees, to promote training so that everyone is able to perform first aid before actual medical assistance arrives,” explained Tavares.
Giovani dos Santos, an IT specialist at IMPA, participated in a first aid workshop for the first time. “It was very important because I was able to learn safety protocols for the workplace and for emergencies. It was also very good for our daily lives, in case we have any situations at home or on the street. The training was extremely valuable and useful.”
