IMPA launches Science & Mathematics Blog on O Globo website.

The website of the newspaper O Globo publishes for the first time, this Thursday (24), the Science & Mathematics Blog, by mathematician Claudio Landim, deputy director of IMPA. The proposal is to help reverse a national scenario in which Mathematics and Science still circulate timidly outside specialized spaces.

“The blog will publish articles on popular science, reviews of advances in the exact and human sciences, and analyses of public policies in the area of education and science,” says Landim, who is also the general coordinator of the Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools (OBMEP), the largest scientific competition in the country, held by IMPA and the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM) since 2005, with approximately 18 million students.

The commitment of Ciência & Matemática is "to give experts a voice so that they can communicate the interest and importance of their research to the general public," writes Landim in the blog's debut.

The texts will be published on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays, internet users will have the opportunity to solve a mathematical puzzle.

Next week, the Science & Mathematics section will feature articles by the president of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), Luiz Davidovich, and the president of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC), Ildeu de Castro Moreira, both professors at the Physics Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
