IMPA launches 4th edition of José Plínio de Oliveira's book.

IMPA publishing house has released the fourth edition of the book "Introduction to Number Theory" by Professor José Plínio de Oliveira. The book can be purchased at the institute's store for R$ 62. Written in accessible language and intended for students from the second year of undergraduate studies onwards, the book presents important results in the field preceded by examples to illustrate the ideas used in the proofs. In addition to the proposed problems, there is a significant number of solved problems. Combinatorial proofs are also presented for some important theorems. About the author: José Plínio de Oliveira holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Unicamp, and a doctorate from Pennsylvania State University. A native of Lambari, Minas Gerais, he has worked at the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Scientific Computing at Unicamp since 1976, having headed the Department of Applied Mathematics between 1994 and 1998.
