IMPA launches 3rd edition of Severino Collier's book.

IMPA Publishing is releasing a new edition of Severino Collier Coutinho's book, ' Integers and RSA Cryptography '. The work is in its Tuesdays edition and can be purchased on the Brazilian Mathematical Society's website for R$ 74.00 .

The book is a basic introduction to one of the most popular cryptographic methods currently available, RSA, and to the area of mathematics that underlies it, number theory.

The mathematical treatment of the material is rigorous, but the presentation is unconventional, filled with concrete examples and historical notes. This makes the book more enjoyable to read than a traditional mathematical textbook.

The approach adopted is decidedly algorithmic, and the proofs are, whenever possible, constructive. The prerequisites for reading the book are minimal, making it accessible to a high school student. The material has been used in the algebra for computer science course at UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro).
