IMPA is accepting applications for the Pro-Olympic program until February 22nd.

To disseminate and strengthen Olympic culture in classrooms across the country and encourage the professional development of teachers focused on mathematics competitions, IMPA is launching the 8th edition of the Olympic Teacher Improvement Program (Prolímpico). Classes will be held virtually between February 26th and March 1st and will be broadcast on IMPA's YouTube channel . Those interested in participating in the program must apply by February 22nd through the institute's institutional system. The course is free.

“The Prolímpico program aims to complement the training of various teachers already working in Brazilian schools who wish to pursue Olympic preparation activities. The demand for professionals with this type of qualification is growing, both due to the need to expand the discovery of talents that these competitions seek and the interest in empowering students with high abilities for educational programs such as Olympic university places and, more recently, undergraduate places at IMPA Tech [the institute's first undergraduate course],” highlights one of the program coordinators, Samuel Feitosa.

Held since 2020, the program is divided into four modules. Level A is aimed at teachers of Elementary School I and covers content from the 3rd to the 5th grade. Level 1 focuses on teachers of Elementary School II, from the 6th and 7th grades; level 2 encompasses teachers from the 8th to the 9th grade, and finally, level 3 is aimed at High School teachers. It is possible to register for more than one module.

The team will cover topics such as: "Ratio and proportion, why compare?"; "Second-order linear recurrences"; "Origami and geometry," among others. The schedule can be found at this link.

Every day after each class, participants will have access to a form on the Google Classroom platform with a question about the course to be answered by March 1st. Only those enrolled who complete all forms and the final evaluation will receive a certificate of participation.

The program aims to share more specific knowledge with participants, according to their area of expertise, and to encourage an Olympic culture from an early age in schools.
