IMPA hosts Workshop on Quantum Computing
IMPA, in partnership with IBM Research Brazil, will hold a Workshop on Quantum Computing on February 21st and 22nd – a course aimed at postgraduate students in Mathematics. The event will be taught by Rodrigo Neumann, Marco Barroca, and Alan Duriez, researchers from IBM, and will feature a lecture by Guilherme Temporão and Thiago Guerreiro, from PUC-Rio. The practical course will last six hours and will take place between 9 am and 12 pm. The first day will cover basic topics of quantum information such as quantum states, systems and circuits, unit measurements and operations; superdense coding (Qiskit) among other subjects. The second day of the workshop will be dedicated to the fundamentals of quantum algorithms such as factorization, Quantum Fourier Transform, Shor's algorithm, structureless search and Grover's algorithm.
The lecture “ Entanglement: from quantum weirdness to a resource for quantum ”, will be given on Tuesday (21) from 2 pm to 5 pm. The presentation will be divided into two parts: the first will address a historical overview of the concept of entanglement and its importance in understanding the nature of reality, including a discussion of how Bell's Inequality changed our understanding of the nature of reality. The second part will show how entanglement can be exploited as a resource for quantum computing and communication.
