IMPA hosts the 1st National Seminar of the All Mathematics Commitment
IMPA hosts, this Tuesday (2), the 1st National Seminar of the Toda Matemática Commitment, the inaugural milestone of the Ministry of Education's (MEC) commitment to strengthen mathematics education throughout the country. Holding the event at the institute reinforces the strategic partnership between MEC and IMPA and highlights the institution's historical role in Brazilian mathematics education.
“Holding the 1st National Seminar here at IMPA is an honor that highlights the importance of IMPA's contribution to the cause of mathematics education over the years, and signals our strong partnership with the Ministry of Education in pursuing the broader objectives of Toda Matemática,” says IMPA's Director-General, Marcelo Viana.
The "All Mathematics" National Commitment seeks to ensure that all students in basic education have access to a quality mathematics education, as foreseen in the National Common Curriculum Base (BNCC). The initiative aims to address regional, socioeconomic, ethnic-racial, and gender inequalities in learning; strengthens collaboration between states and municipalities; and encourages the creation of lasting public policies for the area. The strategy includes technical-pedagogical and financial support, production of guidance materials for curriculum, assessment, and teacher training, as well as encouraging participation in actions such as the OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools).
The seminar marks the launch of important materials from the Toda Matemática program, including the Governance Guide and Training Materials for Early Years Teachers. The event also features the awarding of prizes to winning teachers of the AnpMAT Symposium Challenge and recognition of medal-winning students and innovative teachers, reinforcing the commitment to valuing professionals and students.
The opening of the event, scheduled for 9:20 am, will feature representatives from Consed ( National Council of Education Secretaries) , Undime ( Union of Municipal Education Directors) , and Consec ( National Council of Education Secretaries of Capital Cities) , as well as the director-general of IMPA.
Marcelo Viana will also participate, at 2 pm, in the round table “Quality mathematics education for a sovereign country”, alongside Patrícia Mota Guedes (Insper), moderated by Tereza Farias. The debate will discuss ways to improve school performance in mathematics and the strategic role of the area for the scientific, technological and social development of Brazil.
The seminar program also includes the panels "Understanding Performance Standards in Mathematics" and "Collaborative Regime and Strengthening the Federal Pact." Activities begin at 9:00 AM and continue until 5:00 PM.
