Representatives from IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics) and PlanetáRio (Planetarium Foundation of the City of Rio de Janeiro) met this Monday (6) to align a partnership between the two institutions. Through the exchange of experiences, undergraduate students will be able to participate in different activities later this year. "The partnership aligns with IMPA's vision of offering its students a rich and comprehensive education, far beyond the curriculum, while also collaborating with the Planetarium, one of the most important and charming scientific outreach facilities in Rio de Janeiro," stated Viana.

A technical cooperation agreement will be formalized soon to strengthen the partnership, but the first activity is already scheduled: a guided tour of the Planetarium in Gávea on May 18th.

The Rio Planetarium is the largest planetarium of its kind in Latin America. Students will visit the Museum of the Universe, which houses various interactive experiments and exhibitions; the libraries, with a collection of approximately 3,500 books; the Telescope Plaza, where telescope observations take place; the Carl Sagan and Galileo Galilei Domes, among other spaces.

In addition to the field trip, exhibitions and joint outreach projects with undergraduate students are being planned.

Inaugurated in 1970, the Planetarium Foundation is dedicated to disseminating astronomy and science and offering quality culture and leisure to visitors. The institution values environmental, economic, and social sustainability and develops projects aimed at energy efficiency, resource preservation, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
