IMPA and the Brazilian Society of Applied and Computational Mathematics (SBMAC) signed a cooperation agreement this Friday (6) at the Institute’s headquarters that expands and formalizes collaboration between the two institutions. The partnership aims to strengthen the promotion of applied, industrial and computational mathematics in the country – a strategic area for scientific innovation, technological development and the solution of challenges facing industry and society.

With this partnership, IMPA will become an institutional member of SBMAC, with formal participation in the organization. The Institute will also support the society’s main event, the National Congress of Applied and Computational Mathematics (CNMAC), which this year takes place between September 14 and 18 at Unesp, in Presidente Prudente (SP). In addition, the two institutions will work to jointly disseminate initiatives and may develop new actions in collaboration, including with other players in the scientific and productive sector.

For IMPA’s director-general, Marcelo Viana, the agreement inaugurates a new stage in the relationship between the two institutions. “This agreement marks a new era in the collaboration between IMPA and SBMAC in promoting applied mathematics in Brazil. The partnership expands the possibilities for cooperation and strengthens initiatives aimed at developing the field in the country,” he said.

The president of SBMAC, Maria Soledad Aronna, stressed that the partnership represents an important step towards strengthening the field in the country. “We are very pleased with this partnership with IMPA. It will be very positive for the development of applied mathematics in Brazil, for the dissemination of activities in the area and also for our main event, the CNMAC,” she said.

Initially valid for five years, the agreement may be renewed for additional periods. The initiative strengthens the links between the two institutions and expands the possibilities for cooperation on projects, events and actions aimed at advancing applied mathematics in Brazil.
