IMPA and CNRS celebrate 20 years of scientific partnership
To celebrate 20 years of scientific cooperation between IMPA and France’s Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the institute will host the institution’s president, Antoine Petit, on Monday (26), who will arrive in Rio de Janeiro accompanied by a delegation of high-level researchers.
The program includes a visit to IMPA’s headquarters and IMPA Tech, as well as strategic meetings on the creation of the Federation of French Institutes in the Americas and the strengthening of the France-Brazil Mathematics network. The meeting also includes a talk by Antoine Petit with young researchers, stimulating dialog and international scientific cooperation.
“Scientific cooperation with France is a pillar of IMPA’s international insertion, substantiated by our classification as an International Research Laboratory of the CNRS, as well as by the France-Brazil Mathematics Network, created at the initiative of Jacob Palis,” says Marcelo Viana, IMPA’s director-general.
IRL 2924 Jean-Christophe Yoccoz CNRS/IMPA, a CNRS research unit based at IMPA, was created in 2006 and is the result of a formal agreement between the two institutions, which is renewed periodically. The initiative aims to stimulate long-term collaborations, the mobility of researchers and the development of joint projects in fundamental areas of mathematics. The IRL Jean-Christophe Yoccoz – which pays homage to the French mathematician, Fields medallist and honorary researcher at IMPA – symbolizes the consolidation of this partnership.
Over two decades, the alliance has contributed to strengthening the scientific dialog between Brazil and France, expanding IMPA’s international presence and creating an even more stimulating environment for the production of excellent research. The French delegation’s visit to the Institute reaffirms this commitment and highlights IMPA’s role as an international hub for mathematical research, open to cooperation and the circulation of ideas.
