IMPA and ANPMat formalize partnership agreement

On Monday (6), IMPA and ANPMat formalized a partnership agreement aimed at improving mathematics teaching and teacher training in Brazil. The collaboration provides for the development of joint initiatives to strengthen basic education and broaden the scope of projects in the area.

IMPA’s director-general, Marcelo Viana, emphasized the convergence between the institutional missions. “The agreement meets this intersection of strategic objectives, allowing us to expand initiatives that contribute to the teaching of mathematics in Brazil,” he said.

For the president of ANPMat, Sumaia Almeida Ramos, the partnership represents an opportunity to promote concrete actions aimed at the classroom and teacher training. “ANPMat feels very honored to sign this collaboration agreement with IMPA, which will certainly generate projects aligned with the objectives of both institutions. The expectation is that this partnership will bring positive impacts to both basic education and teacher training,” she highlighted.

During the meeting, the institutions also announced the creation of an award to recognize innovative practices in the teaching of mathematics in basic education. Details of the format, regulations and applications will be announced shortly.

The new award is in addition to other actions already launched under the partnership, such as the OBMEP Mirim Teacher Olympics – an initiative that is part of the Ministry of Education’s Toda Matemática program. The scientific competition, which will be held this year, aims to encourage the improvement of teaching practice in the early years of elementary school.

IMPA and ANPMat intend to broaden the scope of educational projects and stimulate the exchange of experiences between teachers, strengthening mathematics teaching throughout the country.
