Hubert Lacoin, from IMPA, receives the ISAAC award.
IMPA researcher Hubert Lacoin received, this Wednesday (19), the ISAAC (International Society for Analysis its Applications and Computation) award, which recognizes every two years young scientists under 40 years old, for merits in analysis, its applications and computation. The award ceremony took place during a congress of the institute in Ribeirão Preto (SP). This year, the Swedish institution awarded two mathematicians. In addition to the IMPA researcher, Danylo Radchenko, from the University of Lille, in France, was also honored.
“It was very good news to hear that I was selected. Awards aren't the most important things in life, but it's always good to know that your work is recognized and appreciated. It's a great satisfaction,” Lacoin stated.

The biggest mathematics event in Brazil starts on the 24th in Rio.
IMPA has two open positions for researchers.
In addition to the honor, both were invited to speak at the institution's 14th congress. Lacoin was the only researcher from a Brazilian institution to be part of the speaker panel. Titled " Anisotropic motion due to curvature as a scale limit of the stochastic Ising model , " the work presented is a study of a rudimentary model of the evolution of magnetization in a metal at low temperature. As he explains, it was possible to prove that " the line marking the magnetization transition evolves deterministically, being determined by the solution of a differential equation called 'anisotropic motion due to curvature'."
"I chose to present this work because, despite the title seeming complicated, it's a very suitable topic for dissemination. The model's definition is simple to understand and doesn't require advanced knowledge of probability theory, which is my specialty. Furthermore, it allows for a presentation with many illustrations. Among my works, it's the one with the strongest link to analysis, a branch of mathematics related to the ISAAC Congress."
The IMPA researcher also highlighted that the work presented was done in collaboration with colleagues and brings back fond memories.
