Google announces a $150,000 donation during a visit to IMPA.

Google announced a $150,000 donation to IMPA, which will be allocated to projects at the Pi Center (IMPA's Center for Projects and Innovation) and other initiatives, during a visit by a team from the tech giant to the institute on January 18th. The use of the funds will be detailed soon at a joint ceremony between the two institutions.

The Google team was received by IMPA's Director-General, Marcelo Viana, Deputy Director, Claudio Landim, the coordinator of the Pi Center, Jorge Lopes, researcher Paulo Orenstein, and project scientist Lucas Nissenbaum.

“It was a visit to discuss projects, future partnerships, and to find out how we can help each other and define together how resources can be applied. We will also study the possibility of students integrating internships or research at Google as part of their training or research, which in the medium term is worth more than $150,000. It was a conversation about possibilities,” explained Marcelo Viana.

This was Google's first visit to IMPA. According to Nissenbaum, the company plans to support research institutes in Latin America, and Brazil is part of a select list of countries that may have institutions considered for investment.

“Having a company like Google host is very positive because we perceive their interest not only in theoretical and applied projects, but also in the students, in knowing what they are doing. This has value both at the project level and at the teaching level. These are internationally renowned institutions interested in talking and establishing collaborations with IMPA students and professors on diverse projects.”

After the meeting, the Google team took the opportunity to explore the institute's facilities, including the library, the Pi Center, and the auditorium.
