Event discusses advances in the field of combinatorics.

Students and researchers are gathered at the Salvetti Hotel, in São Sebastião (SP), until Friday (15) for the 1st Brazilian School of Combinatorics . The event is organized by IMPA and the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of USP (IME-USP). The aim of the meeting is to bring together several researchers in the field to present the latest developments in combinatorics, as well as to provide opportunities for students to showcase their research.

Throughout the week, there will be nine plenary lectures. Among the plenary speakers, Marcelo Campos, PhD from IMPA and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford, will give his presentation on Friday (15) on Ramsey's Theorem . Campos, Robert Morris (IMPA), Simon Griffiths (PUC-Rio) and Julian Sahasrabudhe (Cambridge) have developed a new algorithm capable of improving the limit of the theorem. The advance is the most significant in the field since 1935.

"The school experience has been great. I hope that with the participation of many students, combinatorics will grow in Brazil. We are also working on several interesting problems with researchers who have come from all over the world. In my lecture, I hope to be able to share some of the history of the problem and also our method for improving the upper bounds in Ramsey numbers."

In addition to Campos, Anita Liebenau (UNSW Sydney) , Liana Yepremyan (Emory University) , Marcelo Sales (Emory University) , Mathias Schacht (Universität Hamburg) , Maya Stein (Universidad de Chile) , Nina Kamčev (University of Zagreb) ,Patrick Morris (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) and Pedro Araújo (Czech Academy of Sciences) are part of the cadre of plenarists.

The event will also feature two mini-courses taught by Richard Lang (Universität Hamburg) and Wojciech Samotij (Tel Aviv University ) . There will also be poster sessions where students can present their research, an open problem session, and daily example classes to reinforce the material covered in the mini-courses. The event's organizing committee consists of IMPA researcher Robert Morris, Guilherme Oliveira Mota (USP), Yoshiharu Kohayakawa (USP), Taísa Martins (UFF), Letícia Mattos (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), Luiz Freire Moreira (UFPE), and Roberto Freitas Parente (UFBA).
