Federal deputy Luiz Antônio Teixeira Jr., Dr. Luizinho (PP-RJ) and the director-general of the Legislative Assembly of Rio (Alerj) and former Secretary of Education, Wagner Victer, visited IMPA on Monday morning (7). At the meeting, the institute's director-general, Marcelo Viana, and deputy director, Claudio Landim, presented IMPA's activities in research and master's and doctoral courses, as well as teacher training for basic education. Participants also discussed the institute's expansion, which is building a new sustainable campus adjacent to the current headquarters in Jardim Botânico.

Another topic of conversation was the impact of OBMEP (Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad for Public Schools) on children and teenagers throughout the country. Viana and Landim presented national and regional data on the competition, which reaches 20 million students in 99.7% of Brazilian municipalities. The board highlighted the pioneering project of Nova Iguaçu (RJ) in OBMEP Level A, aimed at 4th and 5th grade elementary school students.
“It was a very productive meeting, in which we were able to give Congressman Dr. Luizinho and former Secretary Wagner Victer an overview of IMPA's work in the areas of science and education. It is an important step in bringing the institute closer to the federal representatives from the State of Rio de Janeiro,” said Viana. For Landim, the meeting is a step towards strengthening the institute's dialogue with Rio's parliamentarians.
