CNMAC 2026 to be held in Presidente Prudente
From September 14 to 18, Presidente Prudente will host the XLV National Congress of Applied and Computational Mathematics (CNMAC 2026) at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FCT/UNESP). The event is organized by the Brazilian Society of Applied and Computational Mathematics (SBMAC) and crowns the year of the institution.
Registration for the CNMAC is now open and runs until September 7, 2026. Authors and presenters must register by July 24 for their approved papers to be included in the congress. The date also marks the last day with special registration prices. To consult the price list and register, visit the event’s official website.
The main objective of CNMAC is to bring together people involved in teaching and research, as well as professionals from universities, research centers and companies who are developing studies in the field of Applied, Computational and Industrial Mathematics. As the event has grown, it has become a meeting point for scientific activity in this field of knowledge, earning it the title of Brazil’s and Latin America’s largest congress in the area.
The congress has as partners the Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (UNESP), FCT/UNESP and the Postgraduate Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics (post-MAC), as well as sponsorship from the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoa de Nível Superior (CAPES), the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP), IMPA and the Getulio Vargas Foundation School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp).
For the 45th edition, SBMAC seeks to further expand the discussion of Applied and Computational Mathematics in the country. To this end, researchers of national and international excellence make up the team of speakers, including Carol Woodward, president of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), one of the most respected institutions in the field in the world. Also among the highlights are Leo Liberti (École Polytechnique), Ernesto Birgin (USP), Claudia Sagastizábal (UNICAMP), and Igor Mezić (UCSB, United States), as well as other relevant names such as Regina C. Almeida (LNCC), Alvaro Coutinho (UFRJ), Luiz Satoru Ochi (UFF), Daniela Rodriguez (U. Di Tella, Argentina) and Claudia Rangel Escareño (Instituto Nacional de Medicina Genómica, Mexico).
The five days of the event will be packed with activities on the theme. In all, there will be more than 30 activities, including lectures, short courses, mini-symposia, technical sessions and poster presentations. As has become tradition, the Kepler, Scientific Initiation and Postgraduate awards, all organized by SBMAC, will also be presented at the congress. The event also includes four mini-courses, with the highlight being “Introduction to PINNs (physics-informed neural networks)”, by Pedro Konzen (UFRGS). There will also be 17 mini-symposia, including: “Stochastic Modeling, Statistics and Uncertainty Quantification”, “Modeling Complex Phenomena in Fluid Dynamics”, among others.
SBMAC and CNMAC: a story that began together
Both SBMAC and CNMAC spring from the same source: the First National Symposium on Numerical Calculus. Held in 1978 in Belo Horizonte, it was both the fuse that founded the society and a prototype of what would become the congress – so much so that it is considered the first edition.
Since then, there have been 44 editions. From 1978 to 2010, it was held annually, and then biannually between 2010 and 2016. There was a pause in 2020 due to the pandemic and the 2021 edition is the only one organized entirely virtually.
In all, the state of São Paulo has hosted the event 17 times. However, proving that SBMAC’s mission is to expand Applied and Computational Mathematics throughout the country, this is the first time that Presidente Prudente and the far west region of São Paulo will host CNMAC.
