36th CBM opens registration for courses and thematic sessions

IMPA has opened calls for proposals for courses and thematic sessions for the 36th Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium (CBM). The most traditional event in Brazilian mathematics will take place in person between July 26 and 30, 2027.

Those interested in coordinating an activity have until September 1, 2026 to submit their projects in PDF format. Submissions should be sent directly to coloquio@impa.br.

Check out the main details of each call:

Introductory and Advanced Course Proposals

Course proposals must be submitted with a focus on two different levels:

Introductory courses: aimed at scientific initiation, they should cover topics that stimulate research and which are not usually included in the regular university curriculum. The structure should include five lectures and two tutorials (all lasting 60 minutes).

Advanced Courses: aimed at researchers and postgraduate students at an advanced stage, focusing on current research topics. The structure consists of five 60-minute lectures.

The production of a textbook is a mandatory and indispensable requirement for the course. The deadline for submitting the manuscript will be April 30, 2026 and the results of the course selection will be published on October 1, 2026.

Proposals for Thematic Sessions

The organizing committee will select a limited number of sessions, which will take place in IMPA’s rooms and auditoriums from 14:30 to 18:30. Each session will take place twice a week for a total of eight hours.

Financial aid: coordinators may receive aid of up to R$8,000 (subject to the availability of funds) to pay speakers’ per diems. The organization is expected to seek additional forms of funding.

Diversity criterion: the organization strongly emphasizes that proposals consider the diversity of the Brazilian mathematical community, seeking thematic, regional and gender balance in the choice of speakers and proposers.

The subject line of the e-mail sending the thematic session should read: “Proposals for thematic sessions”. The result of this selection will be announced on October 30, 2026.
