Brazil wins six medals at the 2019 IMO in England.

The team that represented Brazil at the 60th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in England brought home six medals. With two silver and four bronze medals, the delegation finished in 29th place with 135 points, tied with Turkey.
Silver medals were won by Samuel Prieto Lima, from Goiânia (GO) and Pedro Gomes Cabral, from Recife (PE). Bernardo Peruzzo Trevizan, from Canoas (RS); Pedro Lucas Lanaro Sponchiado, from Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo (SP); Guilherme Zeus Dantas e Moura, from Maricá (RJ) and Felipe Chen Wu, from Rio de Janeiro (RJ), won bronze.

From budding astronomer to IMPA researcher
The young people were selected from among the medalists of the 40th Brazilian Mathematics Olympiad (OBM). In preparation for the exam, they participated in two intensive training sessions with specific classes and mock tests, held in São Paulo (SP), in the weeks leading up to the competition. The team was led by professors Edmilson Motta and Carlos Shine, both from São Paulo (SP).

With this result, Brazil now has 10 gold medals, 45 silver, and 81 bronze, maintaining its title as the most awarded Latin American country in the tournament.
Held since 1959, the IMO is for high school students aged 14 to 19 who have not yet entered university. Each team consists of up to six students. This year's edition registered a total of 621 students representing 112 countries. In 2020, the event will take place in St. Petersburg, Russia.
