Brazil wins nine medals at the Geometry Olympiad.

The team representing Brazil at the Thursdays Iranian Geometry Olympiad (IGO) won nine medals — two gold, four silver, and three bronze. The 2018 edition saw the participation of approximately 5,500 students from 56 countries, making the Brazilian result even more impressive.

The students who stood out the most on the Brazilian team were Enzo Pontes de Moraes (CE) and Gabriel Ribeiro Paiva (CE), who won gold in the intermediate level. In the same level, Pablo Andrade Carvalho Barros (PI) and Eduardo Quirino de Oliveira (DF) secured silver.

At the advanced level, Pedro Lucas Lanaro Sponchiado (SP), Samuel Prieto Lima (CE) and Bernardo Peruzzo Trevizan (SP) won silver medals, while Pedro Gomes Cabral (PE) and Felipe Chen Wu (RJ) took bronze.

The IGO is divided into four levels: Elementary, for students in the 7th and 8th grades of elementary school; Intermediate, for students in the 9th grade of elementary school and the 1st year of high school; Advanced, for students in the Mondays and Tuesdays years of high school; and Open, which does not stipulate an age limit for participants.

The competition was created in 2014 with the goal of providing geometry teachers with the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences to improve and enrich secondary education; to popularize geometric thinking among different people, including students, teachers, and academics; and to create opportunities for geometry enthusiasts to expand communication within their countries and around the world.

Brazil has participated in this Olympiad since 2016 and has accumulated 28 medals, including those obtained now.
