Brazil travels to Europe to compete in the Ibero-American Championship.

The Brazilian delegation embarked for Europe in the early evening of Saturday (22) to compete in the 33rd edition of the Ibero-American Mathematical Olympiad (OIM). The competition will be held from September 24 to 28 in the cities of La Rábida (Spain) and Monte Gordo (Portugal).

The Brazilian team is made up of Pedro Lucas Lanaro Sponchiado (SP), Bernardo Peruzzo Trevizan (SP), Bruno Brasil Meinhart (CE) and Pedro Gomes Cabral (PE). The leaders are professors Eduardo Wagner and Carlos Gustavo Tamm de Araújo Moreira, known as Gugu, both from Rio de Janeiro.

The IOM features 24 national teams. Last year, Brazil won two gold and two silver medals, placing second overall. Brazilian teams have a history of success in the tournament, having won a total of 120 medals.

The opening ceremony takes place this Monday (24). The tests will be administered on the mornings of the 25th and 26th. Students will have four hours and 30 minutes to solve three Mathematics problems, worth 7 points each.

The results will be announced during the closing ceremony on Friday (28). In addition to the medals, the Puerto Rico Cup will be awarded to the team that has made the most progress over the last three editions.
