Brazil's rise to the elite of world mathematics and its strong performance in other international mathematics competitions led to the country being invited to participate with a women's team in the EGMO last year.
In 2017, the Brazilian competitors started their participation in the tournament on the right foot, winning two bronze medals and an honorable mention. The team also achieved the second-best ranking in Latin America and 26th place overall in the EGMO.
