Ballet ‘O Corsário’ brings together students at the Municipal Theater of Rio
This Sunday (24), undergraduate and graduate students from IMPA watched the ballet “O Corsário”, at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, in the city center. The cultural activity was carried out by the IMPA Teaching sector in partnership with the NAP (Psychopedagogical Support Center) of IMPA Tech. The show, inspired by Lord Byron’s poem, was presented by the Corps de Ballet, together with the Theatro Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Jésus Figueiredo.
“The Corsair” is a classic of the world repertoire that tells a story of love and adventure in a universe of pirates and odalisques. In the plot, the pirate Conrad falls in love with Medora, the beautiful slave of the powerful Pasha. Full of twists and turns, the story unfolds around Conrad’s struggle to save his beloved.
The experience marked the first time for some young people at the Municipal Theater, as student Dulce Costa says. “It was incredible! I have always enjoyed listening to symphony orchestras, and having the opportunity to enjoy them in person, along with the ballet performance, was simply radiant. It was the first time I visited the Municipal Theater, a space that expresses art, culture and history through its architecture,” he said.
The Theater is one of the most imposing and beautiful buildings in the city. Inaugurated on July 14, 1909, it is considered the main concert hall in Brazil and one of the most important in South America.
The external activities of the undergraduate program are optional and aim to strengthen the bonds between students, promote moments of integration and contribute to actions that stimulate the social and cultural engagement of undergraduates.
“Activities like this significantly complement academic training. I believe that one of the great differentials of IMPA Tech is precisely to provide, in addition to high quality teaching, experiences that develop our cultural and artistic sensitivity”, added Dulce.
In May, students watched the musical “Enchanted Dream of Cordel” at the João Caetano Theater. In April, it was the turn of illusionism to enter the scene at the Casa Grande Theater, in Shopping Leblon. The students followed the magicians’ show Henry Vargas and Klauss Durães, considered the greatest illusionists in Latin America.
