Authors of ‘Theory of Production’ Hold Book Signing at the 25th SAET

Researchers Luciano I. de Castro and Rodrigo Peñaloza participated this Tuesday (the 14th) in a book signing for *Theory of Production: A Rigorous Treatment of Technology, Costs, and Price Formation* during the 25th Annual Conference of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory (SAET). Published by Editora IMPA, the Portuguese version of the book offers an in-depth exploration of production theory and partial equilibrium, combining classical economic principles with modern analytical tools. The English edition will be published by November by Springer as part of the series Studies in Economic Theory.

“It is a great pleasure to be a co-author of this book. Production Theory It is a work that I consider unique in the Brazilian market. It combines deep mathematical rigor—including all the proofs required in a book of this nature—while also preserving economic intuition. “This combination allows students of economics, engineering, and other fields in the exact sciences to develop an economic understanding that is extremely valuable to their education,” said Luciano I. de Castro.

At about 500 pages, the book was designed for undergraduate and graduate students in economics, offering a rigorous yet accessible introduction to concepts related to technology, costs, and price formation. The aim is to expand upon the traditional treatment of production theory in microeconomics textbooks by exploring topics that often receive little attention in conventional curricula. The book is available for purchase at the IMPA Store.

“This event is an opportunity to promote the book and expand its reach. More than just selling it, we are focused on contributing to the education of economics students in Brazil through a mathematically rigorous approach,” said Rodrigo Peñaloza.

According to the researcher, the book is specifically aimed at economics students who already have some background in mathematics and wish to pursue graduate studies. “There is a gap in the level of mathematics required between undergraduate and graduate programs in economics. The book may also be useful for students in related fields, such as physics, mathematics, business administration, and engineering, who have this mathematical background and wish to transition into economics.”
