Armínio Fraga's lecture is highlighted in the press.

The participation of Armínio Fraga, former president of the Central Bank of Brazil and founding partner of Gávea Investimentos, in the 2025 Inaugural Lecture of IMPA Tech caught the attention of the press. Journalists from the newspapers O Globo, Valor Econômico, Folha de S.Paulo and Estado de S. Paulo followed the event on Monday (17).

In addition to Armínio Fraga, Fernanda Scovino, general coordinator of data governance at the Ministry of Education and co-founder of Base dos Dados, also gave a lecture to students of the Bachelor's degree in Mathematics of Technology and Innovation. The guests shared their academic and professional trajectories, addressed relevant topics in their respective fields of work, and highlighted the importance of IMPA for the country.

Addressing an audience full of young people eager for a career and thinking about the future, Fraga said that "young people should invest in shares of companies listed on the stock exchange, but it's important to avoid overly complex financial instruments," as highlighted in a report by the newspaper O Globo . The economist positively assessed investing in diverse funds during youth and noted that most of the population is unable to save. The discussion of the topic arose after a question from the audience during the event at Porto Maravalley.

'IMPA is a global A+ standard', says Armínio Fraga at IMPA Tech.

Before the keynote lecture, the former president of the Central Bank spoke with journalists in attendance about current economic issues, and these topics were reported by more than 40 media outlets across the country.

In another report , O Globo highlighted Fraga's position on inflation and food substitution, as proposed by President Lula in February during an interview with Radio Bahia, as a way to curb expenses. "President Lula was criticized when he suggested people look for other foods, but he's right. Food prices vary. That's how the market works," he stated.

Valor Econômico also highlighted Fraga's opinion on the inflation affecting food prices. O Povo also followed up on the topic. "According to Fraga, this is how the market works, and food inflation fluctuates according to international prices, the exchange rate, and climatic factors," the article noted.

The Estadão newspaper mentioned the economist's assessment of President Donald Trump's actions. " There's a new Cold War between the United States and China, the situation in the Middle East, which has always been difficult, is now extremely complicated, and there's the invasion of Ukraine. It was already a bad situation. And suddenly, Trump appears, who generates a lot of uncertainty and has adopted a strategy of American isolation under the pretext that this will attract investment. All of this looks very bad," the newspaper emphasized.
