ALGA: Congress welcomes young visitor.

Among the Brazilian and foreign speakers, as well as numerous students, who participated in the 1Thursdays ALGA (Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry) , a small "researcher" caught everyone's attention in the IMPA hallways during the event: Bento Andrade Almeida, from Minas Gerais, who is only two years old.

Despite his young age, the boy already has experience in mathematical environments, as his mother, Aline Vilela Andrade, recounts. She and her husband, Charles Almeida, were among the speakers at the congress. Both are researchers at UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais).

“We tried to arrange a summer camp for him, but it didn't work out. So, we decided to take him here. He's used to the routine of the mathematics department. We take him to work quite often. He's already administered some exams, and his first conference was the Lefschetz Properties Conference in Pernambuco.”

Little Bento's frequent participation in math events stems from his parents' lack of support network. Aline and Charles grew up in São Paulo, but reside in Minas Gerais, far from relatives. To keep him entertained, a pencil case with crayons and coloring books comes into play!
