PA²IN – PDE, Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, and Numerics

Mathematical analysis in the age of artificial intelligence

Historically, the use of computers to prove mathematical theorems was restricted mainly to brute-force computation. In the last few years, however, artificial intelligence — and large language models in particular — has begun to prove, disprove, and formally verify mathematical statements, reshaping how research in analysis is done.

PA²IN brings together communities from the different areas of analysis where these tools have recently had an impact. The conference welcomes all areas of AI for mathematics, mathematics for AI, and numerics, as long as they are related to analysis — from partial differential equations and harmonic analysis to rigorous computation and formal verification. Over one week at IMPA, the aim is to exchange methods, expand the scope of current techniques, and foster collaboration on the use of artificial intelligence in mathematics.
