Title: Coble and Göpel varieties
Speaker: Daniele Faenzi (Université de Bourgogne)
Abstract: A. Coble defined around 1880 some very peculiar hypersurfaces having unusual properties with respect to abelian varieties of small dimension. These turn out to be related to moduli spaces of bundles on curves of low genus. Göpel varieties are moduli spaces of Coble hypersurfaces. Both these types of varieties are related to exceptional Lie groups via Vinberg's theory and gradings of Lie algebras.
I will outline some properties of Coble (and hopefully Göpel) varieties generalizing these classical constructions via orbital degeneracy loci. Work in progress with V. Benedetti, M. Bolognesi, L. Manivel.
