The Art of Problem-Solving

This mini-course is on beautiful problems, and how to go about solving them. I have been collecting and inventing such problems for several decades, and during the classes I will present a few of these, which we shall (hopefully!) solve together. The problems will vary in difficulty, but each will require a real idea; many of these ideas turn out to be useful in a variety of different settings, and a few have led to the development of entirely new areas of mathematics. The course is aimed at undergraduates and graduate students, and none of the problems will require any knowledge of advanced mathematics; the only prerequisite will be an open mind, and a willingness to throw yourself into battle against the problem.
