IMPA opens two postdoctoral fellowships

IMPA is selecting two postdoctoral fellows for 2021. One of the positions is focused on industrial mathematics and the other covers all areas of mathematics, both pure and applied. Registrations are open until November 6, 2020, and the results will be released in December this year. Candidates are expected to start activities at the institute between January and September 2021.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Industrial Mathematics
The Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Industrial Mathematics. This is a two-year position that may be renewed for an additional year by mutual consent of IMPA and the position holder. The position offers an after-tax monthly stipend of BRL 10,000.00. This position is intended for researchers with recent doctoral degrees in Mathematics or related areas such as Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, and Statistics. The fellow is expected to establish collaborations with Brazilian industry, broadly understood. If needed, IMPA will assist the fellow in forging such partnerships.

The fellow’s work will be a combination of solving problems on-demand from industrial collaborators and pursuing original research related to these problems. Candidates are expected to give evidence of strong potential on both fronts. A past history of industrial interactions is desired, but not required. Interaction with students and researchers of the institute will be encouraged.

the industry).

The position is open to all fields of Mathematics, both Pure and Applied. The selected fellow will have the freedom to pursue his own research agenda and is expected to teach at least one graduate course per year. Interaction with students and researchers of the institute will be encouraged.
