Olympic Math Problems for Level 1
Authors
Description
The OBMEP Mathematics Circles collection aims to fill a gap in the publishing of textbooks in Brazil. It publishes mathematics texts, structured in collections of problems, aimed at elementary and high school students.
As in the OBMEP tests, problem solving requires more creativity and ingenuity, ideas and reasoning than formal knowledge in mathematics. It is intended, in this way, to highlight the playful aspect of mathematics and to arouse the reader’s curiosity and interest in the discipline.
The books in this collection provide the material needed to animate maths club gatherings. In fact, most of the public schools with the best performance in OBMEP are precisely those that have created study groups to prepare for the Olympiad tests, using the material prepared by OBMEP for this purpose.
In addition to the clubs, this collection can be used in the classroom, as complementary material, in school competitions, in training programs for elementary school teachers, by mothers, fathers, grandparents committed to developing the creativity of their children and grandchildren, or for the simple pleasure of an intellectual challenge.
