Marcelo Viana

He graduated in Mathematics from the University of Porto and holds a PhD in Dynamical Systems from IMPA, where he is a Full Researcher. He has published several research articles and books on Dynamical Systems, Ergodic Theory and Bifurcations, and has supervised more than 40 PhDs and 20 masters. He is an editor of several international scientific journals and a member of four academies of sciences. He has an active participation in the International Mathematical Union, the Mathematical Council of the Americas, the Mathematical Union of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Brazilian Mathematical Society, in addition to CAPES, CNPq and FAPERJ. He has won several awards and distinctions and is a guest speaker at major Mathematics conferences. He conceived the Biennium of Mathematics 2017–2018 and chaired the ICM 2018. He writes weekly for Folha de São Paulo.
