Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Welington de Melo

Salvador, Bahia, from October 2Mondays to October 28th.

This Symposium commemorates the 3Thursdays anniversary of the historic meeting held in Salvador in 1971, as well as the 60th birthday of Professor Welington de Melo. Meetings like this, at the highest international level, play a fundamental role in leading the Brazilian School of Dynamical Systems to its undisputed leadership on the world stage and continue to be essential for consolidating this position. Among the international speakers, the presence of Professors JC Yoccoz (Collège de France), D. Sullivan (CUNY and Stony Brook), S. van Strien (Warwick), M. Lyubich (Toronto and Stony Brook), and many others stands out.

The Symposium will cover all major areas of current research in the field, especially:

  • transformations of the circle and the interval
  • fractal dimensions and homoclinic bifurcations
  • strange attractors and invariant measures
  • partial hyperbolicity and dynamic robustness
  • holomorphic dynamical systems
  • conservative dynamics and variational methods
