The First Brazilian Mathematics Colloquium was held in the city of Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais, from July 1st to 20th, 1957, with the participation of 49 professors from 9 Brazilian university centers. The coordination of the 1st CBM was the responsibility of Professor Chaim S. Hönig.

Intensive courses were given on work carried out by university professors and mathematics researchers under the auspices of the National Research Council in collaboration with similar federal and state bodies, as well as Brazilian universities.

In addition to the courses, 20 lectures were given.
