The 4th IMPA Women Mathematicians Meeting – EMMI is organized by students from the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics
to celebrate Women in Mathematics Day and promote a conversation about the reality of academic careers for women.

The 4th EMMI will address issues intrinsic to the day-to-day life of women in research, showing the transition from undergraduate to master’s degree,
from master’s to doctorate and from doctorate to post-doctorate.

It will discuss the gender gap in mathematics and provide an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences.

The event will be broadcast and prior registration is required to take part. The meeting will be in a hybrid format, and it will be possible to attend online, if you register by May 9, or in person at the IMPA auditorium.

Women in Mathematics Day was created in 2018 and the date of May 12 was chosen in honor of the birth of Maryam
Mirzakhani, the first female mathematician to win the Fields Medal. In 2024, the event will be held on Monday, May 13, in order to enable more women to take part.

Other events will be held in Brazil and around the world to celebrate this date. For more information, see:
